Three years on – the CPI still fails to defend itself
It is just over two years since Guerrilla Communists publicly challenged the Communist Party of Ireland to defend itself against a range of accusations. Strangely, the CPI has never defended itself against any of the accusations levelled at it despite being assured that any response from the Party would be published.
Many of the accusations are very serious yet the CPI allows them to stand unchallenged. Why?
Can it be that the CPI regards Guerrilla Communists as being insignificant and therefore not warranting a response? The accusations are either serious and valid or they are not – the veracity of the claims is not dependent on how many people hold those views but is solely dependent on whether the claims are true or not.
The CPI was offered a right of reply – it did not take up that offer. However, it has its own organs through which it could present a defense of the charges laid out against it – it has not used those channels either.
The policies and views put forward by the CPI are not invalidated simply because the Party is small and has a small following. Indeed, the Party would never accept the proposition that any of its policies could be dismissed purely on the grounds of its size – it would rightly demand that the policies/views/arguments be considered on their own merit.
Our demand is no less valid: the CPI needs to stand up for itself if the claims made by Guerrilla Communists are false or inaccurate.

The CPI has been accused of grave political and organisational blunders, of inept leadership, sectarianism, bullying and of being a cult-like outfit not suited for purpose….. among other charges. Yet, it has not a word to say in its own defense – perhaps, as we have maintained, the CPI does not have a defense?

It is telling that a party accused of such a range of blunders and abuses does not take any opportunity to rebut or correct the accusations.
Perhaps it believes the whole thing will just blow over? It hasn’t….. and it won’t.
